Today marks the 3rd blogiversary of Clif’s Notes. I am grateful to each of you with whom I’ve connected as a result of this online adventure. You’ve been a blessing to me personally and professionally.

New Diigo Group: Mobile Technology and Education

I’m a big, big fan of Diigo. I appreciate that I can save and share bookmarks, highlight and leave comments on webpages, annotate resources, host and participate in groups and forums on particular topics, message and interact with friends and colleagues, and much more. It’s a very big component of my personal learning network (PLN). I’m also impressed and pleased that the Diigo founders and employees listened to its community of teacher-users and developed Diigo for Educators (More fondly referred to as EduDiigo). Here are some thoughts about about why teachers and learners might use Diigo.

New Group
I started a new group dedicated to the topic of mobile technology and learning. I invite everyone with an interest/expertise in the topic to become an active member.

Happy Thanksgiving (The SONIC Way)

Most of you know by now that my family loves SONIC Drive-In (Evidence A, Evidence B). We enjoy half-priced drinks during Happy Hour at least a couple times a week. Their burgers, Blasts and tater tots are certainly worth the trip, too. I just discovered the Tater Taunt feature of the SONIC website and thought I’d use it to share this Thanksgiving message.

My Car Rolls over 200,000 Miles

My car recently rolled past the 200,000 mile mark. Anyone knows me well knows that I love my car. It’s the only brand new car that I’ve ever purchased and I’ve had it for a very, very long time. To be honest, I’m actually surprised that I didn’t reach the 200,000 mile mark a lot sooner.

Here are a few photos from the day of the big event (via my iPhone).

Here’s a brief video clip of the odometer actually rolling from 199,999 miles to 200,000. Rest assured that I took the video and images while driving through a huge empty parking lot and not while driving down the interstate.

I’m providing professional development at an elementary school this week. I’ve been asked to survey some of the most commonly used Web 2.0 technologies in elementary classrooms. I’m very curious what others are using in their classrooms as I prepare this workshop. Please, please, please share the tools and services that you and your students recommend. This Blog Is Now Mobile-Ready

This blog is now mobile ready (I think!?). I installed and setup a a couple of plugins (WPtouch and WordPress Mobile Edition) giving visitors on mobile devices the option of viewing the blog in a normal webpage mode or in a more conducive mobile theme. The plugin reformats the blog with a mobile theme when viewing with an Apple iPhone, Apple iPod touch, Google Android or Blackberry Storm touch mobile device.

New SlideShare Account

I had to setup a new account at SlideShare. I’d had my old account for a couple of years, but I just kept having too many problems with it and their support didn’t didn’t seem interested in helping resolve it. Overall, I’ve been satisfied with SlideShare, so I’ve gone ahead and setup the new account (One advantage of this is that my ID is now clifmims which matches almost all of my other online IDs). I just hate that I’ll loose some of the connections that I previously had with many of you on SlideShare. I’d very much appreciate it if you’d add me as one of your SlideShare contacts (friends), so that I can reestablish my network more quickly. Together we all learn more!

For what it’s worth, I’ve been very satisfied with my account at SlideBoom. It has fewer social tools than SlideShare but SlideBoom has made uploading files easier. I also think the SlideBoom presentations look a bit better.

Our Girl Scout Cookies arrived this weekend. Every year my wife and I debate which kind is our favorite as we (That’s mostly me…we’ve not really made our kids aware of Girl Scout Cookies, yet) devour them. I thought I’d throw this poll together and ask you, the members of my personal learning network (PLN), which cookies you prefer.

Educational Uses
You are welcome to use the data from this poll for classroom activities. You can access the data and embed it on your own blog, wiki, site, etc. here to avoid having to send your students to my blog if your prefer. You can also quickly setup a similar poll using Zoho Polls, Survey Monkey or take the low-tech route and use Post-It Notes (This is one of my favorite classroom polling strategies because you can very easily line the Post-Its onto bar graphs, charts, Venn diagrams, etc. on the board).

I’ve procrastinated on this far too long. I’ve been tagged by Lisa Thumann, Paul R. Wood, Alan Lutz, Elaine Plybon, and others in the 7 Things You Don’t Need to Know about Me meme. (NOTE: Don’t confuse this with my 8 Things You Didn’t Know about Me meme responses from Summer 2007.)

I can not stand the taste or smell of bananas.
I was an accounting major my first year of college. Wow, was that a mistake for me!
Horses are my favorite animals. I grew up on a horse farm.
My wife coached college basketball before our kids were born.
I bought my first “brand new” car in 1995. I’m still driving it today.
I’ve given a lot of thought to becoming a full time church minister. I like that teaching allows me to spend my summers at church camp and on mission trips.
Of all the places in the world that I’ve visited Switzerland is my favorite (Specifically Adelboden, Switzerland. See the image above and map below). This is a bit ironic because I much prefer water skiing over snow skiing. Greece is at the top of my list of places that I still want to visit.
