7 Things You Don’t Need to Know about Me

I’ve procrastinated on this far too long. I’ve been tagged by Lisa Thumann, Paul R. Wood, Alan Lutz, Elaine Plybon, and others in the 7 Things You Don’t Need to Know about Me meme. (NOTE: Don’t confuse this with my 8 Things You Didn’t Know about Me meme responses from Summer 2007.)

  1. Dusk in the mountainsI can not stand the taste or smell of bananas.
  2. I was an accounting major my first year of college. Wow, was that a mistake for me!
  3. Horses are my favorite animals. I grew up on a horse farm.
  4. My wife coached college basketball before our kids were born.
  5. I bought my first “brand new” car in 1995. I’m still driving it today.
  6. I’ve given a lot of thought to becoming a full time church minister. I like that teaching allows me to spend my summers at church camp and on mission trips.
  7. Of all the places in the world that I’ve visited Switzerland is my favorite (Specifically Adelboden, Switzerland. See the image above and map below). This is a bit ironic because I much prefer water skiing over snow skiing. Greece is at the top of my list of places that I still want to visit.

I tag John Dobbs, Tom Barrett, Patrick Higgins, Leigh Zeitz, Bob Sprankle, Kristin Hokanson, Jeff VanDrimmelen, John Curry and Drew Polly.

  1. I enjoy your posts. Thanks for sharing your personal wishes, too. My daughter just did a Study Abroad in Greece. We did research and decided to “follow the steps of Paul” We did most on our own. We did have Kosta who owns Astoria Travel, his own tour companpy, to arrange a few things, and he was our driver for the day to Olympia.Contact him and tell him Gail from TN recommended him (mailbox@astoriatravel.gr) Opps, the rest of my notes are on Google notebook! We stayed at the OMIROS HOTEL in Athens at the beginning and end of our trip. Plan that trip!

    1. Gail,
Many of my friends spent a semester studying in Europe and retraced the steps of Jesus and Paul back in college. We may have the chance to do something very similar in a few years. I’m very hopeful that it will work out for our family.

    1. Ah, there’s a really good story behind my answer, Lisa. Please be sure to ask me about it. 😛

  2. Wow, I hope that I can start traveling sometime soon! Your comment about the ministry makes me remember when my husband was talking to me about the Stephen Ministry a few weeks ago. He said “I’m just waiting for the other shoe to drop” – meaning he’s waiting for me to say I want to go all the way. Good luck with whatever track you go with!

  3. Ha! You can’t stand bananas? And your wife does long-distance running right? If so, she probably eats a lot of bananas. Does she have to sneak them when you’re not around? 😉

    1. It turns out bananas are our kids favorite fruit. I quickly figured out a trick to us so I could feed them bananas without me getting grossed out. To this day they don’t know that I can’t stand this particular fruit. I didn’t want to pass my aversion on to them.
