Look How Much We Paid for Gas

Gas Price on 11-29-08.jpg

That’s right! We paid $1.48 per gallon for gas last night here in Memphis. I have to admit that I was really shocked to see the price so low already.

  1. In Germany the prices falling too (i think overall in the world). We’re currently at a price of 1 euro (approx $1.40) per liter while we had to pay more than 1,60 euro (approx $2.20) per liter some months before.

    So happy new year everybody.

  2. Stefan,

Several other teachers (one from Australia) and I were talking about doing a similar math exercise with students. It’s a good activity because there’s both the conversion of measurement and of monetary systems. Your comment will be a fine example for us to share with the students.

    Thanks for visiting!

  3. Came across your blog by visiting the site ‘Best Teacher Edublog 2008’ and noticed your post about gas prices and couldn’t resist the urge of responding.

In the Netherlands we pay a whole lot more but we do not use the term gallon. We use the term liters. I did some calculation and came up with the following:

    1 gallon = 4.55 liters.
Here in Holland 1 liter of unleaded gas costs 1.20 in euro’s.

    So that’s 4.55 x 1.20 = 5.46 euro’s per gallon
    5.46 euro’s is around 6 dollars…

Before the financial crisis there was a time we paid 1.48 euro’s for 1 liter of unleaded gas.

Have a nice Christmas and a happy new year.
