PIDT Conference
The Professors of Instructional Design and Technology (PIDT) Conference is an annual retreat where professors, selected doctoral students, and other individuals interested in instructional design/instructional technology gather from around the nation. By design PIDT is a small conference with typically 60 – 100 attendees and is held alternatively in the mountains of Virginia and Colorado and among the bluffs of the Mississippi River in Memphis, TN. It is a great opportunity for participants to visit, brainstorm, collaborate, and share with others with strong interests in instructional design. The structure of the program, interests and abilities of those in attendance and the conference’s physical setting combine to make it a uniquely focused event.
This year’s retreat will be May 16 -19, 2008, at FTK Camp in Memphis, TN. Those in attendance will enjoy high quality presentations, discussions, speed demos, and activities. We’ll also enjoy an evening on Memphis’ Beale Street during the world famous Memphis in May Music Fest and World Championship Barbecue Contest.
NECC Buzz Has Begun
It is still more than two months away, but I am already excited about this year’s National Educational Computing Conference. Although I will be co-presenting a BYOL (bring your own laptop) session about integrating technology in elementary mathematics, I am much more excited about meeting and visiting with members of my online social network in real life. I virtually attended last year’s conference via the RSS river that flowed out of Atlanta and promised myself I would not miss all the fun and opportunities in 2008. So, San Antonio, here I come!!!
Here are some of the events for which I am especially looking forward.

AERA Update
I’m enjoying the AERA 2008 Conference. I’ve attended some really good presentations and engaged in several quality hallway discussions. I’m finding more and more that conference hallway and lobby conversations are even more invigorating than the presentations. I relish the opportunity to meet new colleagues and discuss teaching, research and service. There is much to be learned from diverse experiences and points of view.
Many have inquired about information regarding our presentation on Monday. It is available here.
AECT’s Teacher Education Division’s Online Convention Activities and Resources
Introducing the Teacher Education Division’s most recent venture into the world of Web 2.0 technologies. TED Live! 2007 is a member generated e-newsletter of anything and everything related to TED during the 2007 AECT Convention. TED Live! 2007 has robust RSS capabilities and will mashup blog posts, images, podcasts, vidcasts, social bookmarks, file attachments (slide shows, handouts, papers, etc.), tags/keywords, and more into an easy to use e-newsletter. This information will be archived and will be available on The Playground. Consider the possible benefits of being able to provide your students access to particularly relavent information and materials, for those with research interests related to the social aspect of a professional organization, professional development communities, online learning and callaboration, social networking, and much more.
Virtual Attendance and Participation
We realize that everyone can not make it to Anaheim this year, but you can stay connecTED with us and enjoy the presentations and content via TED Live! 2007. If we don’t see you at the convention then we hope to see you online!

Not Going to NECC?
I canceled my plans to attend this year’s National Educational Computing Conference in Atlanta, but I really wish I could attend. I bet many of you are in the same boat. Luckily, thanks to Web 2.0 technologies we don’t have to miss out entirely. Here are a variety of ways to have a virtual NECC experience. | |

PIDT Conference
I recently returned from the Professors of Instructional Design and Technology (PIDT) Conference. An archive of some of the presentations and discussions from this year’s conference is emerging. Documents, presentations, podcasts, images and more are available in the archive.
Elizabeth Boling led a discussion about Moving the Field Forward. She used an engaging instructional strategy to focus participants on three points: What are our fears?
AERA Conference
The 2007 American Educational Research Association (AERA) Conference is this week. The Instructional Technology Special Interest Group (SIG-IT) has many good presentations scheduled throughout the conference.
