Snorkeling in the Florida Keys

Google Photos generated this highlight video showcasing some of our family’s experiences during Spring Break 2015. We spent a week in the Florida Keys enjoying snorkeling, sailing, jet skiing, parasailing, sea kayaking, sunsets, and lots of smiles.

I highly recommend using Google Photos. It makes taking, storing, editing, and sharing videos a cinch. You can use Google Photos from your smartphone, tablet, or computer.

Inspirational Comedian: “You Can Turn Anything into a Positive”

Drew LynchI enjoy laughing. I love and appreciate good standup comedy. This story and video made me laugh out loud and inspired me, so I had to share it.

“Drew Lynch suffered nerve damage to his vocal chords after a softball accident, which left him struggling with his own speech. Lynch decided to take up comedy instead of feeling sorry for himself and managed to get everyone on their feet with his performance on America’s Got Talent” (Source).

A Student’s Thoughts on Visible Thinking

Analogy: Thinking and PizzaThis young lady shares a few thoughts about visible thinking. She explains that “when you do Visible Thinking it helps you understand more and learn more than you thought you know.” I especially like the analogy she makes between thinking and pizza. I hadn’t heard that one before.

It’s great to see how much she values thinking and metacognition.

An Especially Beautiful Version of Pharrell Williams’ Video, Happy

World Down Syndrome DayHere’s another remake of Pharrell William’s video, Happy. This one is especially beautiful as it’s a celebration of World Down Syndrome Day (March 21st). Lance Ulanoff, aptly describes the experience of watching this video.

“Watching people dance to almost any song is usually a happy experience. Watching those living with Down syndrome dance to the snappy beats of Pharrell’s soon-to-be-played-out “Happy” is something approaching joy” (Source).

Students Think They Are “Lucky” to Have Teacher of the Year [Video]

Hather Fisher“Dogwood Elementary 3rd grade teacher Dr. Heather Fisher was named the 2012-2013 Shelby County Schools Elementary Teacher of the Year. The classroom veteran is a life-long learner whose passion for education rubs off on her students and co-workers” (Source).

I became acquainted with Heather just over a year ago when she was selected as a 2012 Martin Institute Fellow to Project Zero. The impact that experience at Harvard has had on her teaching is evident in the video clip below. In addition to spending time together at the Project Zero Institute last July, Heather was also an active participant in our study group during this past school year. She has been committed to learning more about teaching for understanding and has a desire for her students to thrive. Heather has also taken advantage of opportunities to share her expertise with others through presentations and workshops. There’s no wonder why her students feel “lucky” to be in her class.
